SUMMARY:Spanning Generations: A Conversation
DESCRIPTION:A presentation of Craft NOW Philadelphia \nModerators Bruce Metcalf and Judith Schaechter will present a panel discussion consisting of teachers and their choice of an artist they once taught or mentored.  Topics will include the transitions between generations of makers\, transactions between deep knowledge and learning\, and speculation about the future of craft. \nKeynote address by Perry Price\, American Craft Council (ACC) Director of Education \nPanel Discussion between ACC Fellows and Emerging Talent with Meghan Ayers\, Sharon Church\, Chrissy Day\, Ted Hallman\, Kathryn Pannepacker\, Warren Selig\, Paula Winokur\, and Robert Winokur \nAttendees are invited to attend a post-panel reception from 6pm-8pm at the Philadelphia Art Alliance\, located at 251 S 18th Street. SUMMARY:Old City Fest
DESCRIPTION:Old City Fest is a celebration of art and design\, fashion and food\, creativity and culture on the streets of America’s most historic square mile— Old City\, Philadelphia. This event highlights the region’s premier art and design district\, showcasing local designers\, creative firms\, restaurants\, retailers\, galleries\, theater\, culture\, history and architecture. \nThe Design Showcase\, opening during Old City Fest is located in the Gerry Lenfest Gallery at The Center for Art in Wood.  It will feature actual room settings created by Marguerite Rodgers Interior Design using an eclectic array of furnishings\, objects and art exclusively from Old City shops and galleries. \nThe Center will also be presenting a tent in front of its large installation wooden doors\, with items for sale and wood turning demonstrations on a lathe\, featuring Suzanne Kahn and Derek Weidman.  The Center’s Len Sherock Museum Store will also be open with fine art objects\, handmade goods\, toys\, home decor\, and more. \nThis event will also include a festival stage with live music\, a design showcase installation\, a kid’s zone\, pop-up street performances\, and a wide array of food\, beverages\, art\, craft and retail shopping\, with over 100 local vendors participating. \nNew this year\, Philadelphia Independents is sponsoring Independents Row\, a special designated area featuring Old City artists.
